Overcoming fFear can be either a great motivator, or a fierce road block in our minds. Because we often establish our own limitations, these road blocks can actually be a good thing. They can alert us to be cautious, and they can cause us to analyze whether or not what we are doing is right for us.
Sometimes, however, a road block needs to be knocked down in order for us to grow. Overcoming a road block of fear gives you a learning experience that you can't get any other way. Deciding to take action and move forward is the first step towards freeing yourself of whatever it is that confines you. But what do you do if you feel you can't take action?
Sometimes we're just not able to attack fear head on. It seems too big, too unfamiliar, and we feel as though we don't have the support we need to overcome it. Overcoming a fear is a great liberator, as whatever is holding you back is a great weight on you. Below are 5 sure fire ways to overcome your fears and get what you want. Use them to empower yourself to make change, and you'll feel lighter, more energized, and more relaxed all at the same time.
1. Take small steps - Afraid of something big? Overcome that big monster by breaking it down into smaller, bite-sized pieces. We don't start out in life driving cars or running for President, but we can work up to those things. Afraid to ask your boss for a raise? Start by asking other people for small things you normally wouldn't ask for, then challenge yourself by raising the bar each day.
2. Realize you are not alone - Afraid of flying? I used to be afraid of flying, and plenty of other people are too. Go to the airport and watch how many people get on and off planes each day. Some of those people are afraid to fly but they overcome the fear and do it anyway. Some of them used to be afraid to fly. Maybe one or two of them just took their first flight and overcame their fear. They did it and you can too. Now, go buy your ticket.
3. Use a friend - Yes, the buddy system works. Find a friend that you can confide in about your fear and tell them you need their help. This needs to be a supportive person who will not judge you and does not have an interest in the outcome. With the help of a friend, I overcame my fear of roller coasters. What helped was that she really enjoys roller coasters and was excited about both riding the coasters, and helping me.
4. Learn - Many times we are afraid of the unknown more than anything. In these cases, getting familiar with the subject or situation can make them seem less intimidating. Are you afraid of home improvement projects? Take a class or read a book. Home Depot stores offer instruction on many different types of home projects, and they also sell books as well. Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and learn first-hand how a house is built from the ground up. Whatever the subject, there's a way to overcome the fear of it and learn about it.
5. Visualize - When children play "make believe," they are actually confronting fears. They pretend they are in totally unfamiliar territory, doing unfamiliar things, yet they are in total control over what happens. Use this same technique to overcome your fears by using your own imagination to create the outcome you desire. As adults using self-improvement methods, we usually call this technique visualization.
A group of basketball players once practiced by pretending over and over to shoot the ball through the hoop. When they actually got back on the court, their shooting had improved! Imagine that you are overcoming your doubts and taking action in your most ideal state. Run the scenario over and over again in your mind until it is second nature. See yourself conquering your fear. How I Conquered Fear and You Can Too!
We’ve all heard it, felt it, sensed it, experienced it and dealt with it in some way or another, it’s FEAR! You know … False Evidence Appearing Real!! The question is, how are you going to handle it and overcome it now and forever?
Getting out of your comfort zone for most is fearful and challenging, to say the least. It’s been my experience that the missing element is psychological. Too many times I’ve said to myself, “I don’t know HOW to do this” and self-sabotaged my brain into believing I could not do it. What I’ve come to know is this; it’s not the “how” that is so important but rather the “why” behind it! Get a big enough WHY and the HOW will follow!
It’s the old 80/20 rule … 80% is psychology and the remaining 20% is the mechanics. We all tend to get what we HAVE to have. It boils down to what YOU believe you must do and choose to not settle for anything less!! Turning your “should’s” into “must’s” and making the decision to move forward in spite of the fear.
Overcome Fear and Live the Life you Want
Feel the fear, overcome it and do it anyway! If you truly want to get the edge, you will need to get over your fear. Fear of failure, fear of embarrassment, fear of whatever … it’s okay to make a mistake, just make sure you learn from it and live the life you want by avoiding the same pit falls next time around.

Two things to help you control your fears and emotions
Deal with your BODY and what you FOCUS on at any given moment.
1 – Body, the psychology that we are “in” is driven by the physiology that we are “in”. Specifically, when we change our MOTION we change our EMOTION and therefore experience a change of “state”. It’s these “states” (or emotions), that will determine our action towards any given target including overcoming fear.
2 – Focus, what you focus on and moreover, “how” you focus, plays a vital role in your achievements (or lack thereof). We must remember, what’s wrong is always available to us but so is, what’s right! Understand that “problems” are a sign of life. Want to see someone who doesn’t have any more problems? Drop by your nearest cemetery, they’re done! No more problems … and no more life!! Direct your focus on overcoming fears, whatever you focus on you moves you towards that object or experience. There isn’t a “try” … only do or not do!
Others Experience the Same Fears
I’ve noticed several things about myself that I can’t help but believe others must share in similar experiences or situations. The difference for me now, is how I choose to “control” or “focus” myself as fear situations arise. This is a broad range of things from attending a party and “experiencing” my emotions, to simply taking a shower and getting ready for the day. It’s truly how I overcome and manage my “state” during the situation that defines my experience!
To be more clear, it’s what I choose to focus on while showering or while at the party. If while showering I’m having thoughts of … oh no, it’s Monday again, I hate the first day of each work week! I hate Monday’s!! I wish I could just stay home and sleep in. I have to fight the stinking traffic every day. I wish I had another car, a bigger fancier car.
On and on it goes and before you finish your morning shower … presto, you’re in a bad mood and ready to bite your partners head off! You’re having emotions of agitation and fear, experiencing anxiety about going to work, all before you even get dressed to go.
I suggest and submit to you it all begins with your thoughts. It’s these thoughts that begin to affect our emotions (or states) and once we learn how to overcome and control them, we then have a much more powerful position to face our fears and that will determine our actions.
Control and Overcome Your Fears
Use MOTION to create EMOTION to control and overcome your fears. Back to the shower scene … sing, shout, clap your hands, pretend the soap bottle (or bar) is your microphone, move briskly, breathe deeply and think about good things. (Remember, you get to choose what you think about … it’s your personal power)!
Wouldn’t you rather get dressed feeling good about the day ahead of you, as opposed to dreading the very next moment? Sure you would, and you get to pick your experience. It may take some practice or “conditioning” on your part, but it will become a “habit” once you focus on training your brain and body to do so.
You can control your fear and use it as leverage to compel you towards your goals. It the courage behind the fear that builds the faith within us that makes us stronger. Esteem comes from forcing yourself to overcome and do difficult things. Therefore, causing us to broaden our comfort zones while strengthening our faith.
How to Overcome the Fear of Failure
Some people will have to deal with managing the failure of failure during their lifetime. They are so afraid of failing or not making it that they become very anxious. Here are some steps on how to overcome the fear of failure in your life. It is best to have at least have tried than not to try at all. Do you want to go through the rest of your life not knowing that you could have made it? At least if you try, you will know for sure if you would have made it.
Another benefit of giving something a try is that you can learn from your mistakes. If your first attempt doesn’t work out, then at least you know what went wrong. If you decide to do that task again you will know what to do which will increase your chance of success.
If you are fearful of failure at a certain task, then develop some kind of back-up plan for you to rely on in case you do fail. For instance, let’s say that you are afraid that you will not pass a certain class in school. Develop a plan B for yourself in case you do not pass the class. This will reduce your stress and take the pressure of taking the test and passing. If you don’t make it, you have something to fall back on.
Ask yourself what is the worst that can happen. Think about it. What will you lose if you don’t make it the first or second time? Yes, it might be a setback, but you had set backs before. Tell yourself that you will not succeed at everything in life and that will help overcome your anxieties. Fear of failure can be a struggle for some people, however the worst part is not to at least try. You don’t want to go through life wondering whether you could have made it or not.
